Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) was formed on 1 January, 1992, by a decree issued by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum which merged the Dubai Electric Company and the Dubai Water Department. These two separate entities had been operating independently since 1959 with the objectives of making an adequate and reliable supply of electricity and water available to the people of Dubai. Today, DEWA provides services to more than 780,000 customers with a happiness rate that reached 95% in 2016. In line with DEWA's current vision and in order to keep pace with developments in technology, the organization has invested in a wide range of smart services to cater to its customers and offer quick, convenient, and secure service. Presently, new eServices such as online bill payment, mPay, NOC, smart meters, Hayyak, and distribution substation inspection are just a few of the many eServices provided, a number which will continue to increase in the coming years.
